Piedras Rojas & Lagunas Altiplanicas

Don’t have too much time in San Pedro but still want to discover as much as possible? This full day excursion is the one you’re looking for! You will first pass by the Tambillo forest; governmental project in the 60’s to reforest the land between San Pedro and Toconao. Small village where will stop to admire its central place with its church and bell tour. We will then head up toward the Laguna Chaxa, natural habitat of hundreds of flamingo and Andean Seagulls. Back on the road, we will reach the 4000m high to pass by the native community of Socaire, owner of the Lagunas Altiplanicas. Once on site, the landscape will amaze you. Few meters away from each other, are hidden in the Flamenco National Reserve the Lagunas Miscanti and Miniques. Among them, the Cerro Miscanti, and Volcano Miniques, will give you a strange sensation of serenity. And if that wasn’t enough, local fauna like Vicuñas, Altiplanics birds and Vizcachas will be surrounding you during this all journey. Last but not least, you will arrive to the Talar Salt Flat, magnificent landscape with red volcanic rocks, known as Piedras Rojas (Red Rocks), due to the high percentage of iron in it.
